By chance, Ito (Keiko Kitagawa), daughter of a clan official, encounters Magoshiro Eguchi (Shuntaro Miyao), a low ranking samurai who sparks an attraction within Ito. Ito challenges Magoshiro to a sword match using bamboo sticks. Mahoshiro accepts. The pair's duel results in an attraction between both. Meanwhile, Ito faces an arranged marriage with Saisuke Katagiri (Masahiro Komoto) & Magoshiro is wed to known flirt Kayo.
Masaatsu Naito (Kuranosuke Sasaki) successfully completes Sankin-kotai (required ritual to visit the shogun).
