Gopi

Premachandran (Mohanlal) is a down-to-earth carpenter and is liked by the village folks. One day he meets Kanmani (Meera Jasmine), a girl of Tamil roots who is employed as a servant and is continually ill-treated by the family that employs her. Premachandran comes to her rescue. But this lands him into endless troubles and eventually into love.

Ravi Kumar (Balachandra Menon), SI of Police, frequently quarrels with, but loves his wife Shobana (Shobana), whom he had married against the wishes of her rich father, Azhimathi Naraapilla (Adoor Bhasi). When Ravi meets his old college pal Dinesh (Sreenath), who is now jailed, Dinesh requests Ravi to drop by at his house every now & then to console his distraught wife. Ravi hides this matter from Shobana, afraid of her misconstruing it. But Shobana starts to suspect that something's going on.

When Chandri (Urvashi), Sivan's (Mammootty) sister, gets pregnant outside of marriage & seeing Sivan's anger at this, Chandri names Sivan's best friend, Chellan (Gopi), as the father & hearing this Sivan kills Chellan. Resolute on revenge, Chellan's brother Bhadran (Mohanlal) sells Chandri off to a brothel & awaits Sivan's return from the jail. But after Sivan's return, when Bhadran is stabbed by a couple of his enemies, Sivan comes to Bhadran's rescue, in spite of Bhadran's enemity towards him.

Albet Samson (Mohanlal), a middle-aged architect who clawed his way to prominence, however, doesn't have a meaningful private life with this wife Alice (Swetha Menon). Into this, comes Hilda Varghese (Nithya), a vivacious young woman to whom Samson had promised "a kingdom" when she was 12 years old. As Samson struggles with the destructive consequences of his monomaniacal pursuit & his growing fear of the new generation, the mysterious Hilda helps him gain a glimpse of his former robust self.

Prof. 'Shakespeare' Krishna Pillai (Gopi) leads a happy life with his four kids & wife Sharada (Srividya). Asha Thampi (Revathy) moves in as their neighbor, who also joins Krishna Pillai's college as his student. Asha introduces her boy friend Unni Krishnan (Mohanlal) to Sharada, & Unni gets close to Sharada, who reminded him of his dead mother. Asha mistakes this relationship & to get back at Unni & Sharada, pretends to be attracted to Krishna Pillai, with Krishna Pillai also falling for it.

Based on the suicide of the famous Malayalam actress Shobha, 'Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback' chronicles the life of Lekha (Nalini), an aspirant who comes to Madras for joining the movies, & how she is taken advantage by everyone, including her greedy mother Vishalakshi (Shubha). Lekha finally falls in love with a director, Suresh Babu (Bharath Gopi), & hopes for a life with him, but after cheated by him too, commits suicide by hanging herself.

After getting infected by her promiscuous husband & getting diagnosed as HIV+, Aparna Verma (Nandita Das) separates from him & goes to an asylum for AIDS patients, 'Jeevan Jyothi', run by Dr. Machado (Anupam Kher), as a volunteer. There she meets another volunteer George (Rajat Kapoor), whose happy-go-lucky attitude irritates her at first. George is attracted to Aparna, but Aparna pushes him away because they were both HIV+, afraid of them seeing each other die horribly.

Malayala Shabdam daily, owned by the Ezhuthupura Veedu family whose matriarch is famous poetess Vishwalaksmi Thampuratti (Rohini Hattangadi), is in trouble with the newly appointed manager Anantharaman (Ratheesh) slowly arrogating it, using the real owner Rama Varma (Devan) as a puppet. Rama Varma's younger brother Ravi Varma aka Aniyan (Mohanlal) vows to win back the paper by hook or crook, & sets out to be rich with the help of ex-goon Pareed (Captain Raju) & takes to smuggling illicit liquor.

Mukundan Menon (Gopi), the newly-appointed government veterinary surgeon of the village, lives with his wife Savithri (K.R. Vijaya) & mother (Rajam K. Nair). Mukundan befriends Kuttan Thampuran (Nedumudi), a bachelor womanizer who seemed to constantly get his way with women. Envious at Kuttan's exploits & goaded by Kuttan, Mukundan decides to try his hand at adultery, but chickens out at the last moment. Savithri however, gets wind of it & this causes friction between Savithri & Mukundan.

Usha (Zarina Wahab), who loses her lover Ravi (Shankar) in an accident in Coonoor, comes to her elder sister Geetha's (K.P.A.C. Lalitha) house to take her mind off things. There, she gets a second chance at life & love, in the form of Ramankutty (Nedumudi Venu), a railway worker who was a friend & coworker of her brother-in-law Vasu (Gopi) & frequent visitor at their house. However, when Vasu learns about them, he opposes it as he had his own roving eye on Usha.

Mohanakrishnan, a Brahmin carpenter & son of a famous father, C. K. Nampoothiri, who had committed suicide, gets sent to Rama Varma Thampuran (Gopi) for a job & to learn music. He gets appointed as the junior priest of Rama Varma's family temple, & falls in love with Satyabhama (Bhama), a struggling school girl whose cousin Surendran had his roving eye on her. In a sticky situation, they had to elope, but Surendran doesn't let go & kidnaps Mohanakrishnan's sister & demands Satyabhama in return.

Appunni and Ammu are destined to be married, however, when a better man comes along, Ammu's father dumps Appunni for Menonmash.

Major Ravi Mammen (Mammootty), after a disturbing past where his pregnant lover Suzanna was murdered & him framed & jailed for attempting to kill the Central Home Minister K. J. Nair (Janardanan), in a plot laid out by K. J. Nair himself, takes off to Dubai where he becomes a multimillionaire businessman. But K. J. Nair doesn't let go, & tries to ruin Ravi by targeting his family & business through cohorts Krishan Narayan Bhatta (Nirmal Pandey) & liquor baron Victor Sebastian (Cochin Hanifa).

Ayyappan Pillai (Karamana Janardanan Nair) & Thankappan Pillai (Thilakan), friends, neighbors & business partners, plans to have Thankappan's son Raju (Rahman) marry Ayyappan's daughter Radha (Ahalya). However, their kids, both of whom who were in love with someone else, blocks the marriage by causing misunderstandings between their families. But when Raju's & Radha's romances fail & they fall in love with each other, now they have to reunite their warring families, for them to unite themselves.

When Revathi Menon (Lizy) refuses to meet her sick father Balan Menon (Gopi), whom she separated from when she was 3 years old when her parents separated & whom she had avoided for the past 16 years, Revathi's roommate & friend Suzanna (Radha), who was an orphan & pined for a father's love, goes to see Balan Menon, pretending to be Revathi.

Circle Inspector of Police Jacob Eerali (Mammootty) investigates the disappearance & subsequent death of an alcoholic, abusive & womanizing tabla player Ayyappan (Gopi), who was part of the drama troupe 'Bhavana Theaters' run by Vakkachan (Thilakan).

Gopinathan (Gopi), employed in the respectable government job of a Tehsildar, after getting constantly nagged by his wife Padmavathi (Madhavi) for a life of more luxury & dazzled by his foreign-return friends' flashy & opulent lifestyles, desires to make it to the Middle East himself & based on mixed advice from friends, tries to learn various vocations, including typing & tailoring, with disastrous results.

Famous poet & novelist Chandradas (Mammootty) comes to Kodaikanal for a sojourn where he meets his long-lost daughter Haritha (Chippy) during a school function. 15 years ago, Chandradas had abandoned Haritha & her mother Anitha (Sasikala) in Calcutta, after an altercation. Chandradas now wants his daughter back & embarks on a legal battle to obtain her, with Haritha now torn between her biological father & her stepfather, Dr. Harikumara Menon (Lalu Alex).

In the backward hamlet of Airavatakkuzhi, henpecked Panchayat president Dushasana Kurup (Gopi) & his clique of corrupt Panchayat members look to raise Kurup's fame by attaching his name to a new bridge, even if that meant destroying the current, perfectly functional bridge. Spreading the rumor that the current bridge is weak, they procure the permission to demolish it & a farce of mammoth proportions ensue in the effort for the new bridge, with everybody in the game seeking personal gains.

Short-tempered Kamban (Uday Kiran) leaves home after a fight with his father, Valluvanar (Avinash), a famous upright politician, & gets conned by his father's political rivals into joining their party. Veni (Shalini), who gets orphaned after her grandfather Mahadevan (Gopi) passes away unexpectedly, is given shelter by Mahendran (Jayaram) & his grandparents. After Veni was Subramanian (P. Sukumar), a distant relative who had his eye on her. Sita and Vishwam have just eloped. But their early marital bliss is interrupted by financial reality... although well-educated, they're unemployed. Kaul's film addresses the writings of Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh (1917-79), one of the main representatives of the Nai Kavita (New Poetry) movement in Hindi. Muktibodh also wrote several short stories, one of which provides the film with its title, and critical essays. The film integrates episodes from Muktibodh's writings with material from other source, including a reinvented neo-realism derived from Muktibodh's literary settings.

Muniyandi(Sreenivasan), a laborer in the farm, believes and respects Shivakami (Smita Patil). Muniyandi brings Shivakami to the farm after marrying her. She soon befriends Shankaran (Gopi). But one day Muniyandi catches Shankaran red-handed with his wife Shivakami. Broken hearted, Muniyandi commits suicide. The extreme feeling of guilt forces Shankaran to leaves the place. Madhav Verma (Om Puri) is a dedicated, honest, and diligent union representative. He represents the majority of the employees in an organization, which recognizes his union. However, there is a rival in the shape and form of Rustom Patel (Naseeruddin Shah) who is attempting to break the union so as to establish his majority, through his henchman Krishnan (Gopi), and will not hesitate to stoop to any level to get what he wants.
