Olaf is to take care of the family's cleaner's store, while his dad is away on a fair. In the evening he runs into three Brazilian ladies thrown out of a limousine not knowing where to go. Olaf invites them to stay with him and his deaf pot-smoking grandfather, which at first just causes some confusion as he soon is to marry his girlfriend Vera. The next day it's topsy-turvy all over. Peter Schlönzke is an adoring fan of the show "Fun Unlimited" and it's moderator Heinz Wäscher. Peter wants to be like him, but when he attends a talent contest, he fails entirely, manages to get only a job as cable layer. His view behind the background lets him see the real personality of his idol: an arrogant choleric. By his innocence and motivation Peter gets probated soon and manages to start a show-biz career himself.

Karl-Heinz and his family, Herta, Kurt and Margot have only one thing in common: they have booked a holiday at Club Las Piranjas, where they want to relax from their nerve-racking occupations. But there are three people knowing a way to prevent this. Linda's Polish grandma celebrates her 80th birthday with Linda and her husband Lothar. Grandma is dead the next day. Problem: the deceased should be buried next to her husband in Poland. However, proper transfer is too expensive. Lothar has the idea to bring grandma in a surfboard carrier in private car to Poland. The gasoline goes out, the car is stolen and an odyssey begins, until the grandma has found her last rest in Kowalew, next to Grandpa Pyotr.

The main character, Gisbert—played by Hape Kerkeling—is an employee of a temp agency who takes on a different job in each episode. Due to his clumsy and awkward nature, he inevitably fails at every task. At the end of each episode, his trademark line is: “I only wanted to help!” Gisbert appears to have no last name and is always referred to by strangers simply as “Mr. Gisbert.”
