An expedition arrives on planet Arkha, which appears desolate and uninhabited and yet suitable for a planned mass exodus from polluted Earth. One day seemingly from nowhere and quite unexpectedly a young boy wanders into their ship and then runs off.

Almost half-a-million widows older than 65 years lived in Czechoslovakia in late '60. Many of them spend the last years of their lives in the countryside. Their men died, children moved on, and they are left alone with their work and daily troubles, solitary with their fate, their beliefs, with memories of momentary happiness and past injustices, with wisdom and humility of age, as well as nature's simplicity which surrounds them all the time.

Discovering a mess and a lone earring at his remote cottage, rich philanderer Aksman (Jiri Bartoska, real-life head of the Karlovy Vary fest) begins to suspect son Artur (David Kraus) is involved in the disappearance and murder of dancer Marika (Barbora Seidlova). "Everyday Courage" or "Courage for Every Day" is a beautifully made fllm of great poetic restraint about a young man living in Prague before the collapse of communism. It is best described as belonging to the school of realism which marked the Czech films of the sixties, and its director, Evald Schorm, was noted for his refusal to compromise the subject matter or style of his films with the regime which controlled the film studios.
