In this spinoff of "Alice", ex-Mel's Diner waitress Florence Castleberry returns to her hometown of Cowtown, Texas, and, on a dare, buys a dilapidated roadhouse. Renaming the place Flo's Yellow Rose, Flo attempts to fix the place up, turn a profit and deal with the somewhat mixed-up and burned-out customers and employees, including bartender Earl, pianist Les, greedy banker Farley and customer Chester.

Earth has been conquered by an alien race known as the Masters using their giant Tripods. When humans reach the age of sixteen, they must undergo a process known as capping which places their mind under the control of the conquerors.
