Obsessed with turning their autistic son Buddhiraja aka Buddhi (Dhruv Piyush Panjnani) into a genius, Ravi Kumar (Irrfan Khan) & his wife Padmini (Shobana) turn to Dr. Satya (Anupam Kher), who claims to have invented a miracle drug called 'Brain Booster'. After taking the drug, Buddhi turns into a genius overnight, but its side effect leaves him unemotional & unscrupulous. Realizing their mistake, Ravi & Padmini frantically search for Dr. Satya to give them an antidote to reverse the change.
Karan is a thirteen-year-old boy who lives in a dilapidated orphanage. Karan has two dreams: one is to have parents and the other is to be a big Cricketer. His inspiration is Kapil Dev, since he has been brought up on the motivating stories of India's 1983 World Cup win by the orphanage caretaker, Bholu Dada, a loving and a gentle old man. Karan's best friend in the orphanage is Daboo who often lends his gentle ears to the aspirations which Karan lives on.
