Manos Tassakos, a seductive lawyer and writer from Athens, commits suicide with a gun in his office. He sends to a friend of his, also a writer, extracts from a book his was about to finish. Captain Alexis Komninos escapes from German-occupied Greece to Cairo, where he assumes new responsibilities and enters in a new relationship, while he suspects his wife of having an affair with another officer. When she and a priest are arrested by the Germans, the team of commandos disembarks in Greece in an attempt to free their compatriots.
