'Ozhimuri', based on the book 'Uravidangal', is about the transition from a matrilineal system that prevailed in the Nair community in the old southern Travancore to a patrilineal one. By the end of this system, in the 1940s, women lost their power & became slaves in a male-dominated society. The movie lays open the ego clashes & complexities of a period through the eyes of its lead character Thanupillai (Lal), who witnesses the lives of 3 women - his mother, wife & son's girlfriend.

When he's ordered to shoot a tortured prisoner who's tied to a tree, head constable S. Raveendran Pillai (Lal) thinks back to the first time he met the dying man, Joseph (Prithviraj) -- aka Naxal Varghese, the leader of a Naxalite youth group. Some years later, he is unable to bear the weight of what he's done. But his fight to make his past wrongs right could cost him everything, including the love of his own wife and children. (Netflix)
