A young widow, an aging widower-returnee, and a priest from a bankrupt parish are struggling to come to terms with the post-war environment, complete with its prejudices, illusions, and unpleasant mentality. What follows is a romantic comedy set in rough landscape, about a woman who falls in love with a local priest. He is not blind to her love, but is unable to choose between the church and her, until the circumstances force him to make his choice.

A godforsaken mountain village is the only home that a young football player, a miser peasant and a fat girl have. This isolated part of the country finds itself in the middle of the referendum for or against the EU. However they are absorbed in their problems. The young football player who accidentally killed his mother doesn't want to join a rich foreign football team. The lonely fat girl is so desperate for a friend. Matija Remetin is a young man who is studying drama in Zagreb just before the outbreak of WW2. He rents the room at Marija Slajner, a widow who's three previous tenants had committed suicide. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Veljko Kovacevic, a writer and Spanish fighter, and tells about the dramatic growth of the uprising in 1941 in Gorski Kotar and Primorje. Like the novel, the series rests on the memory of the author, a historical witness of those events, and is full of characters whose names have passed into legend and memories. (imdb)
