Anthony John is an actor whose life is strongly influenced by the characters he plays. When he's playing comedy, he's the most enjoyable person in the world, but when he's playing drama, it's terrible to be around him. That's the reason why his wife Brita divorced him. So when Anthony accepts to play Othello, he devotes himself entirely to the part, but it soon overwhelms him and with each day his mind gets filled more and more with Othello's murderous jealousy. In a small town in the Old West, Lulu, a singer/saloon owner, marries Gentleman Joe after he wins her saloon in a card game. Baby Doll, Lulu's rival for Joe's affections, vows that he will steal Joe from her someday and then moves to New York. Lulu and Joe grow up (and grow old) with the town as it becomes a modern, present-day city. Baby Doll returns from New York and apparently has not aged at all. She explains that she has had a "face lift." Joe follows her to New York, and Lulu follows them. (imdb)

Twp sailors come ashore in New York with enough liquor--which was illegal at the time, due to Prohibition--to have a good time.
