A judge and his lover start a new life together, but after some time she dissapears. Years later, the judge finds a skull with a nail in a cemetery. Decided to investigate it, and the wife of the deceased is the main suspect.

When Fernando returns home after studying in Belgium, he finds a strange suicide note written by his father ten years before. They he finds the portrait of a woman who was murdered in the house. Fernando tries to discover the truth behind his father's death.

A widow encounters a fortune teller on a train who describes what her life could have been while she describes what it was.
