La Badie, however, does appear twice within a scene via superimposition, but that's in a flashback-within-a-mirror scene. They encounter a gang of ivory smugglers who hold a prisoner who knows the secrets of the missing people and a lost treasure. To avoid seeing Marjorie Dare, Jim Allen visits Stewart Leighton at the latter's country home. Through certain circumstance Marjorie also becomes Leighton's guest, and Jim moves out into the woods. There he meets Smiles, a little girl in the care of strange old Ben Tangleface.
The film is about a rancher whose spread includes the only way out of the valley where an outlaw is hiding a huge herd of stolen cattle. When the outlaw decides to challenge the rancher's claim to the land, the rancher stays one step ahead of him and hires a surveyor to remap and confirm the property lines.
Long believed lost forever, one of the episodes ("The Chinese Fan", the fifth edition) in this serial was discovered in 2010, stored in the New Zealand film archive. (imdb)
