Balakrishnan (Sreenivasan), a village school teacher, & the new music teacher Nirmala (Samyuktha Varma), the object of his affection, gets involved in a mess when they get stuck in a resort in town & has to help a damsel in distress, Rita, from the goons of Delhi Pappachan (Nedumudi Venu). Rita gets in an accident for which they get blamed & Balakrishnan gets jailed, betrayed by Nirmala. 2 years later, Balakrishnan befriends a kind man, Nandakumar (Mukesh), whose fiancée turns out to be Nirmala.
Bubbly, mischievous Maya (Divya Unni) & dreamy, introverted Aarathi (Manju Warrier) were best friends & roommates who were polar opposites of each other. To break Aarathi out of her dreamworld, Maya writes fake love letters to her, pretending for them to be from Vinayachandran (Suresh Gopi), the gentleman Deputy Collector. But later when Maya learns that Vinayachandran fancies her instead & wants to marry her, she tries to discourage Aarathi, but it was already too late.
Naarayanan Unni (Prithviraj), a youth who cannot accept his mixed parentage, a Brahmin father & a low caste mother (Sreekala), leaves home on an identity quest & comes to Kuttanad to trace his mother's roots. There he stays with an amiable, but mentally deranged woman (K.P.A.C. Lalitha) & her young daughter Jayasree (Samvrutha Sunil), where Jayasree fed her family by sleeping with her own uncle (Nedumudi Venu). The experiences that Unni goes through makes him see life in a new light.
Pavi (Nishan) & his 4 friends lead a lazy life, much to the annoyance of their parents. Pavi dreams of becoming a director some day, while the rest of them play truant at their existing jobs. Pavi meets Maya (Mithra Kurian) & a string of spats ensue, which climaxes in Pavi announcing his "love" to Maya in front of her family on the day of her betrothal, to get back at her. But to Pavi's surprise, Maya walks out of her home with Pavi & Pavi is forced to marry her.
Raziya (Meghana Raj), a rich Muslim girl & grandkid of freedom fighter Bapu Musaliar (Charu Haasan), falls for the poor boy next door, Raghu (Murali Krishnan), the grandkid of their family friend Kuttappan Bhaagavathar (Thilakan). When Raziya's dad Abubaker (Sphadikam George) gets to know about the affair, he asks Raghu to secure a good job & prove himself. Abubaker however had ulterior motives & sends off Raghu to Jamal (Sudheer), a recruiter who recruits youths to terrorist camps in Pakistan.
