A mother and son (Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Biju Menon) comes to Haridwar to perform the last rites of her elder son, Bharath Pisharody (Mohanlal), who had run away from home and is believed to have died. But they find him on the banks of River Ganga and takes him back to the family. Now Pisharody is a different man and his family believes that he is on drugs. But his brother discovers papers about his mental illness from his suitcase. Now everyone starts seeing him in a different way.
A box of arms is discovered in an area under construction, leading to complications with a criminal-police-politician nexus. Balram (Mammootty), the no-nonsense police officer, one who figured in 'Aavanazhi' (1986), starts investigating. The evidence leads to Tharadas, played again by Mammootty as the suave smuggler of the 80's hit, 'Athirathram' (1984), who has now become an international criminal.
Three unemployed young men - Mukundan (Manoj K. Jayan), Britto (Nandu) & Dasappan (Premkumar) - start a missing person bureau, along with their house owner Pankunni Nair (Janardanan). When a rich heiress, Chandni (Annie), is announced missing, they find her through two private detectives - Reddy (Raghu) & Freddy (Sathar), & turn her over to those who said were her family, but later they realize that they've been duped. They decide to find Annie for real & the reason why she ran away from home.
Sajan Joseph Alukka (Kunchako Boban) & Priyamvada (Meera Jasmine) are collegemates, with both struggling to get through college, with a lot of burdens at home. After some initial spats & misunderstandings, they fall in love with each other. Learning of Sajan's IAS aspirations, Priyamvada drops out of college & puts Sajan through IAS coaching. Sajan gets IAS, but their plans to unite are foiled when Priyamvada hacks her lecherous brother-in-law to death, & is subsequently arrested & jailed.
Chandy (Mammootty), a good-at-heart roughneck, comes to the village of Maravathoor to help out his struggling farmer brother Michael (Biju Menon) with his crops. There, with his bluster & courage, he tames local bullies & finds a place in landlord Annie's (Divya Unni) heart. However, Palani Swamy Gounder (Nedumudi Venu), a disgruntled local bigwig who had an eye on Michael's land, spreads rumors about Chandy & Michael's wife Mary (Mohini), which sows seeds of doubt in Michael's & Annie's minds.
Petty thief Charls (Dileep), with pal Shobharaj (Jagathi Sreekumar) backing him up, agrees to woo millionaire Paulose's (Cochin Hanifa) daughter Anna & make her drop her plans of becoming a nun, to raise money for his mentally wrecked sister's surgery. By mistake, Charls woos the wrong girl (Suvalakshmi) & gets her out of the seminary. Once outside, Charls initially tries to give Anna the slip, but when he learns that her step-brother Bijoy (Shiju) & his cronies wanted her dead, sticks with her.
Honest ex-cop Shekhar Joseph (Lalu Alex) teams up with Sultan (Babu Antony), the leader of the head load workers of the Calicut market, to battle the evil coterie of millionaire businessman & underworld don Alexander (Devan), trade unionist Ummer Haji (V.K. Sriraman) & Commissioner of Police Ravishankar (Sathar), after they murder Shekar's wife & daughter. Alexander had plans to bulldoze the market as he claimed the land for himself, which Sultan & PWD Minister Kesavan Nair (Thilakan) opposed.
4 waste disposal workers working for the 'Kudumbasree' organization, Girija (Revathy), Shantha (K.P.A.C. Lalitha), Suhara (Shweta Menon) & Raji (Vishnupriya), find 30 lakhs of 'Hawala' money in a dumpster, which they deposit with usurer Unnithan (Nedumudi Venu), & which they later learn to be from murdered Hawala courier Ashraf. CI Antony (Lal) suspects them of pocketing the money & gets hot on their tail, while Unnithan, learning that the money was illicit, tries to keep it for himself.
Business magnate Joseph Thomas (Captain Raju) is killed, & his friend Kolappulli Govindan (Devan) is framed for it. Later, Kolappulli too is killed, & this time coolie 'Chala' Vasu, who considered Joseph & Kolappulli amongst his father-figures, gets the blame, in a scheme engineered by Bapputty Haji (Vijayaraghavan), Marthandan Velayudhan (Raghu), ex-MP Rajashekaran (Sadiq) & MLA Sudhakaran (Subair), after a real estate deal goes sour. Vasu then gets out on bail & tries to prove his innocence.
Durgadathan (Babu Antony) returns to his birth place, from where he & his mother Kannamma (Srividya) were driven away years ago. There, at the Poomangalam palace, he meets Bharatha Varma (M.G. Soman) & his adopted daughter Gayathri (Charmila), who were living there like servants after being cheated out of all their riches by Varma's brother-in-law Rajadeva Varma (N.F. Varghese). Durgadathan gets protective towards Gayathri & later also learns that he is Bharatha Varma's illegitimate son.
Appukuttan (Mukesh) comes to Ooty in search of a job & blackmails businessman Chandran Pillai (C.I. Paul) into getting a job as his driver. When a horoscope mix-up causes astrologer Kizhekkedam (Nedumudi Venu) to predict widowhood for Pillai's daughter Meenu (Manya) in her first marriage & that her second marriage would be long-lived, Pillai finds a way out by getting Meenu married to Appukuttan. Knowing about the mix-up, Appukuttan plays along & usurps Pillai's wealth along with getting Meenu.
Unnikrishnan (Jagadish), an impoverished youth always on the lookout for shortcuts in life, in a mix-up, has to don the role of the husband of Indu (Parvathi) in front of Indu's grandmother (Philomina) & uncle (Jagathi Sreekumar). Meanwhile, Indu's real husband Vishwanathan (Siddique) has to play the role of Unnikrishnan's friend, in his own house. Indu's friend Latha (Rupini), meanwhile, has an ongoing tiff with Unnikrishnan on account of pretending to be his wife & stealing his job.
Based on the 1993 Bombay bombings, the film portrays how an innocent young man, Shajahan (Unni Mukundan), is used as a pawn by the terrorists in the blasts, & how he becomes a fugitive later. Sanathanan (Mammootty), a Hindu priest who tries to save him, unwittingly leads the cops to Shajahan who kill him. Penitent, Sanathanan adopts Islam to save Shajahan's family by marrying his sister Abida (Roma). But bad luck follows Sanathanan as he is suspected of being a terrorist's accomplice & jailed.
Kannan (Sajith Raj), adopted by a childless couple after his parents were killed by goon 'Cheenkanni' Bhaskaran, searches for him, while rising to the top of the criminals in the city of Perumbavoor, heading the sand mafia. Opposing the sand mafia was the honest & environmentally conscious cop Tomy Sebastian (Kalabhavan Mani). Sparks routinely flare between Kannan & Tomy, but things take an ugly turn when Tomy is found dead in Kannan's sand truck. Kannan is accused of Tomy's murder & jailed.
Balakrishnan (Biju Menon), guided by his lawyer pal Lakshminaryanan (Baburaj), routinely enters into flaky ventures with his ancestral money & loses his shirt in the process, with the most current flub causing for him to owe Shankaran Potti (Nedumudi Venu) 3 crores, as part of a land deal. When his uncles decide to transfer the family assets to his name, Balakrishnan finds an actress, Mayamohini (Dileep), to play his wife, to convince his uncles who were under the impression that he got married.
Undereducated village bumpkin Sundareshan (Dileep) gets upset when his educated wife Radhamani (Navya Nair) gets a government job in the city, & when he couldn't talk her out of going, decides to accompany her, & then resorts to various tactics to get her fired. However, his attempts go too far, & drives Radhamani to attempt suicide, not knowing that Sundareshan was behind everything & when she does, they separate. Sundareshan, in an effort to win back his wife, decides to get an education.
Samson (Mammootty), a thief, gets released from jail & lends a helping hand to Mallika (Charmy Kaur), who was also released the same day, after she gets into an accident. Samson ends up accompanying Mallika to her hometown of Karippa where she had an account to settle with her estranged husband Mani (V.G. Muralikrishnan) who had cheated on her & hence deserted her. Samson becomes Mallika's protector & takes on Mani & his henchmen.
Gopikrishnan (Mammootty), a guard at the Vellimala dam, claims to be a war veteran, but is the subject of ridicule in Vellimala because of him being scared of night shifts & because of his claims of seeing ghosts. Varghese (Sreenivasan), the incorruptible new dam engineer stumbles onto a plot by the high & powerful to cast the dam as unsafe thereby evacuating the surrounding village so that they could illegally mine the sand from the dam. Then Varghese goes missing & Gopi swears to find him.
5 close friends - John Pallan (Lal), Kichu (Biju Menon), Roopesh (Suresh Krishna), Bava (P. Sukumar) & Babumon (Sunil Babu) - get together to celebrate the New Years in John's flat, when the other apartment dwellers call in the cops complaining about immoral trafficking going on there. The girl turns out to be Merlin (Mia George), Kichu's wife who was there to spoil the party because she was unhappy about the friendship of John & Kichu & was upset that Kichu spends more time with John than her.

Hari Krishnan (Fahadh Faasil), an Ernakulam based techie suffers from Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder which makes it tough for this family & coworkers to deal with him. While taking a train trip to Trivandrum, Hari has to cut the trip short & accompany an old man (Nedumudi Venu) & a young girl, Narayani (Swathi Reddy), to Calicut to get the old man back to his sick wife. Meanwhile, a strike causes train & bus cancellations, resulting in the trio having to rough it out on a road trip.

Vikram (Unni Mukundan), son of cop Vasudeva Shenoy (Anoop Menon), & Adithyan (Dulquer Salmaan), son of thief Kunjunni Menon (Santhosh Keezhattoor), are childhood rivals, who compete for everything including the attention of their lady pal Deepika Pai (Namitha Pramod). Seeing Shenoy groom his son to be a Sub-Inspector, Adithyan tries to be one too, but Shenoy dupes Adithyan's mother Lakshmi (Lena) to cheat him out of the job. A dejected Adithyan leaves home, but chases a higher dream.
A tanker carrying flammable fuel capsizes at a busy intersection & causes a fire which kills 21 people, including some firefighters. But things were about to get worse as the tanker continues to leak flammable gas into the atmosphere posing a danger for the entire community. As a band of firefighters under the leadership of fireman Vijay Kumar (Mammootty) tries to evacuate the area & defuse the danger, Vijay learns that the whole accident was in fact engineered by someone with ulterior motives.
Chethimattathu Philip, popularly known as Sir C.P., is an orphan brought up by 2 unmarried women (Seema & Rohini). A self-aggrandizing & under-educated businessman, C.P. runs his own college, where he is the principal. C.P. takes a liking to Alice (Honey Rose), whom he employs but later has a fallout. As Neena sobered up, she distances herself from Vinay, but Vinay now starts getting attracted to her, complicating things.

Soon Jeevan & Thamara fall in love, & Thamara gets pregnant. Stuck in a place like Sharjah, with strict rules regarding ID & immigration, they are forced to hide Thamara's pregnancy & childbirth.
John David (Mohanlal), a loner, stalks & kills the individuals from two families who killed his own family years ago in the Middle East. Journalist Anantha Raman (Anoop Menon) is also caught in between this, as John tries to teach him a lesson in journalistic ethics. Anantha Raman, who had run a Middle Eastern Malayalam news channel at the time John's family was killed & had reported suspicion about the deaths initially, had later changed his tune for money.
