Malavika (K.P.A.C. Lalitha) of the Kunnathu family has three sons - Sreedharan (Jagathi Sreekumar), Dineshan (Manian Pillai Raju) & Balachandran (Jayaram). The elder two have all girl children, which doesn't bode well with Malavika, who is obsessed with the idea of having a boy in the household. Balachandran falls in love & marries Ambika (Sudharani), but when they too get a girl child, Balachandran is forced to lie about this & pretend that his pal Pappan's (Biju Menon) boy child is his own.
Three unemployed young men - Mukundan (Manoj K. Jayan), Britto (Nandu) & Dasappan (Premkumar) - start a missing person bureau, along with their house owner Pankunni Nair (Janardanan). When a rich heiress, Chandni (Annie), is announced missing, they find her through two private detectives - Reddy (Raghu) & Freddy (Sathar), & turn her over to those who said were her family, but later they realize that they've been duped. They decide to find Annie for real & the reason why she ran away from home.
Ravi Varma (Prem Nazir), a rich businessman settled in America, pines for his son Babu, lost at the age of 5. His blind wife had also died the day he lost Babu. With the help of his friend Unnithan (Oduvil) & attorney Ravindran (Sathar), he fakes his death & publishes an ad looking for his son. 3 people show up (Cochin Hanifa, Mohanlal & Jagathi) claiming to be Babu. All 3 of them pass all the tests Ravi Varma, Unnithan & Ravindran throw at them, leaving them confused as to who the real Babu is.
Anjana (Khushboo), the forsook daughter of famous politico Vishwanatha Menon (Madhu), comes to him demanding that he recognize her & her mother Prabhadevi (K.R. Vijaya). Hearing about this, Vishwanatha Menon's adopted son Devan (Ganesh Kumar) recruits don Chandrasenan (Narendra Prasad) to kill Anjana. Not knowing this, Chandrasenan's younger brother Vishnu (Suresh Gopi), another toughie, had already promised to protect Anjana. Both brothers, adamant to keep their word, turns against each other.
3 friends - Rajendran (Raju), his cousin Prathapan (Mukesh), & Jnaneshwaran (Jagathi) - stumble upon a corpse near a creek. Afraid of the cops blaming them, they trick a boater, Kannan (T.G. Ravi), to transport the corpse, saying it was a drunk person. Kannan, learning the truth, buries it & runs away. Meanwhile, Rajendran's father Narayanan (Bahadur) is hellbent on getting him married to his friend's loony daughter Shanthi, while Rajendran tries to unite with his lover, Raji (Saleema).
DIG Mohandas (Ummer) had long been on the trail of dreaded criminal Sobharaj (Mohanlal) & finally kills him by accident. To catch the whole of Sobharaj's gang, Mohandas gets Dharmaraj (Mohanlal), Sobharaj's long-lost brother whom Mohandas meets by accident, to pose as Sobharaj & infiltrate his gang. Mohandas dies in an encounter, leaving Dharmaraj unable to prove that he isn't Sobharaj. Dharmaraj goes on the run, with the cops & Sobharaj's gang, who learned that he isn't Sobharaj, on his tail.
Two friends, Kunjalikka (Bahadur) & Balakrishnan (Sreenath) goes to Bombay with dreams of getting a visa to Dubai, but become victims of a visa fraud racket run by Babu (Sathar).
Rajan (Mammootty), the new Sub Inspector of Police in town, gets attracted to nurse Geetha (Shobana), but Prabhakara Menon (Thilakan), the local bigwig & panchayat president who was rubbed the wrong way by Rajan, spreads rumors alleging Rajan was a womanizer, thus causing Geetha's loafer brother Thampi (Lalu Alex) to plot to kill Rajan, with the help of local goon 'Kaduva' Thomman (Sathar).
Honest ex-cop Shekhar Joseph (Lalu Alex) teams up with Sultan (Babu Antony), the leader of the head load workers of the Calicut market, to battle the evil coterie of millionaire businessman & underworld don Alexander (Devan), trade unionist Ummer Haji (V.K. Sriraman) & Commissioner of Police Ravishankar (Sathar), after they murder Shekar's wife & daughter. Alexander had plans to bulldoze the market as he claimed the land for himself, which Sultan & PWD Minister Kesavan Nair (Thilakan) opposed.
Village simpleton, Subramania Hariramachandran (Sukumaran), suffocated by his devotee father's strict ways, runs off to Chennai at the behest of pal Kumar (Jagathi Sreekumar) & puts up with him at his apartment complex. There, Subramania is attracted to his neighbor, college girl Sarita (Madhavi), & tries to win her heart by impressing her, but his uncouth village breeding causes him to keep goofing up.
Mumbai city Police Commissioner David & Home Minister K.G. Menon bring up a small time crook, Kannan Nair (Mohanlal), to compete with the reigning underworld don, Carlose (Rajan P. Dev). Although Kannan initially turns down the offer, when he learns that Carlose was also his father Ayyappan Nair's (Balan K. Nair) killer, he takes up the challenge to bring Carlose down. Starting with Carlose's smuggling & narcotics empire, Kannan starts chipping away at his task with a vengeance.
I.G. Balakrishnan (Madhu) gets appointed as the new police chief in town, with the main aim of ending the gang war between rival crime gangs led by Alexander (Mammootty) & Krishnadas (Captain Raju). His sincerity in his mission comes under test when he learns that Alexander was in reality, his wife Lakshmi's (Srividya) first born illegitimate son from a previous relationship.
Johnny (Mammootty) leads a peaceful life with his wife Meera (Sumalatha) and son, away from his father, underworld don Lawrance (Mammootty), whom Johnny had disavowed 17 years ago, but when his son gets kidnapped, Johnny is forced to seek the help of his father again.
Tessa K. Abraham (Rima Kallingal), a nurse in Bangalore who dreams of going abroad, forms a bond of friendship with her visa consultant Cyril C. Mathew (Fahad Fazil). Their friendship turns into love & they move in together, but Tessa's happy life is shattered when she is raped by Cyril's boss Hegde (Prathap K. Pothan) & later betrayed by Cyril himself as she is framed for drug possession. Bitter & behind bars, Tessa plots her revenge against Hegde & Cyril.
Sexually frustrated living with a sick but wealthy husband (Ravi Menon), Soudamini (Sheela) falls for the macho horseman Chandrasekaran (Jayan) in a weak moment resulting in her husband dying without care. Soudamini marries Chandrasekaran but her daughter Baby grows up to hate her & turns into a rebel. Siddayyan (Nellikode Bhaskaran), the ex-caretaker of the family, takes pity on Soudamini & sends his son Prabhakaran (Sathar) to save the family, which doesn't bode well with Chandrasekaran.
Preman (Fahadh Faasil), the caretaker of a flat at Kochi, derogatively called 'Natholi' (Anchovy) by the residents, faces constant humiliation at the hands of Prabha (Kamalinee Mukherjee), a headstrong arrogant girl who lives there. Preman begins to write a story with the same characters in his real life, including himself as Narendran, an NRI & plays with their lives in his story. But he soon loses control over the characters he create & the movie plots ahead with the interaction between them.
Madhavan (Indrajith), a simpleton shopkeeper leading a mundane life, is torn between two rival powers as he becomes the sole witness to a grisly murder. Peringodan (V.G. Muralikrishnan), the murderer, tries to stop Madhavan from testifying, whilst Thomas (Joy Mathew), the father of the person who was killed, tries to force Madhavan to testify against his wishes. Madhavan's whole life, including his arranged marriage to Gauri (Archana Gupta), is jeopardized as a result of this tug of war.
Darshan Das & Wilson Morais (Rajan P. Dev) are former friends turned rivals in the textile industry. Das gets a leg up when her US-educated daughter Priyadarshini takes over the reins of his business. After seeing that he was losing the battle, Morais tries to endanger Priyadarshini. Gautham Vishwanath (Suresh Gopi) is appointed as her new bodyguard, but Gautham had ulterior motives besides just protecting Priyadarshini - to avenge the death of his family at the hands of Morais 20 years ago.
Fish auctioneer Malik (Mammootty) is forced to give shelter to a Jewish British citizen, Michelle (Caroline Bech), after she is forced to leave her hotel, Hotel Casalinda. As Malik couldn't speak or understand a word of English & Michelle a word of Malayalam, Malik tries to learn English. After Malik realizes that he is being used by his politician friend Paulose Punnokkaaran (Sathar) & his ex-father-in-law (Ramu) to steal Michelle's ancestral property, Hotel Casalinda, he decides to help her.
Kochu Kunju (Mammootty) of the Thachiledathu family, is forced to leave his lover Usha (Nandini) & marry rich heiress Ambika (Vani Viswanathan), in return for underwriting debts incurred by his father Vasukutty (Nedumudi Venu). Vasukutty commits suicide, leaving the family's burden on Kochu Kunju's shoulders.
