Tomek, originally from a small town, has come to Warsaw to study law. He is financially supported by a successful couple, and attracted to their daughter, Gabi, but when he is caught plagiarising an essay, he is expelled from university and forced to look for other ways to survive.

The action takes place in Siedlce, at the headquarters of the company dealing in the production of mineral water "Kropliczanka". Its president, Michal, is a man devoid of self-reflection, who strives for attention and recognition with every word and gesture. When the company is taken over by a new owner, and employees start to worry about their jobs, only Michal is optimistic about the changes. Business changes are intertwined here with the everyday office life of "Kropliczanka" employees.

Warsaw, 1968. Students are protesting against the unlawful expulsion of their colleagues from the university and in defense of the "Dziady" poster, directed by Kazimierz Dejmek, staged at the National Theater. Hania and Janek are also among the protesting youth. Their families are on both sides of the barricade.
