In the Name of the Father (1993) - Rated 21 Jul 2025
Children of the Corn (1984) - Rated 20 Jul 2025
"Campy but good. The plot is so bad and off that you end up wishing they just used some cliche contrivance like a virus or some mental illness. The original Stephen King source material didn't do it any favors, since King is a shockingly bad yet still prominent and popular writer."
The Duellists (1977) - Rated 20 Jul 2025
"Great duels, some great moments, and strong actors in the main roles. Great first movie by Ridley Scott, though it's not a great movie overall, though entirely watchable."
New York, New York (1977) - Rated 20 Jul 2025
"There are great scenes, and little great moments, but overall this whole film is an incoherent mess. It's a mix of little bits of greatness that never quite comes together. The concept was maybe a little too daring, but it really drives home the criticality of pacing and narrative coherence. I was glad to see Scorsese had the courage to go with an unhappy ending, though, which is more poignant, despite the alleged advice of George Lucas."
