Towards Zero (2025) - Rated 05 May 2025
"A two hour murder mystery stretched to three in a really bad way. Way too much "wooooo, atmospheric", not enough reasons to care. Dougray Scott does a good rumpled detective but the rest of the cast just exists."
Mickey 17 (2025) - Rated 05 May 2025
Sinners (2025) - Rated 05 May 2025
"A cracking film with a wonderful score. Michael B Jordan deserves to be more of a deal, he shines in this. I didn't care for the mid credit bit."
Warfare (2025) - Rated 05 May 2025
"Puts you into the shoes of a platoon caught in an ambush in Iraq. This isn't a soaring story of heroism, it just wants to show the realities of modern warfare. Civil War suffered for having a huge "what if" and focusing on a small, but well done part. Warfare works better for being a small, intimate slice of the war. The sound design alone deserves awards."
Drop (2025) - Rated 05 May 2025
"I respect the aesthetic of "Hitchcock, but now". The lead actor is giving it socks. You do have to overlook the near bottomless patience of her date and the restaurant though."
Death of a Unicorn (2025) - Rated 05 May 2025
"Plenty of good elements, doesn't fully come together. Horror comedy is a hard needle to thread, I don't think it gets it."
The Internecine Project (1974) - Rated 05 May 2025
"It's a decent thriller, lots of moving parts. Nice score by Roy Budd. The plot does feel like the main character is trying to do things the hard way."
Mrs Harris Goes to Paris (2022) - Rated 05 May 2025
"It's perfectly lovely, Lesley Manville could read some Terms and Conditions leaflet and give it warmth and depth."
Thunderbolts* (2025) - Rated 03 May 2025
"A refreshing change of pace for Marvel, focusing on character and continuing story lines naturally. It helps to have an A+ player in Florence Pugh, but the rest of the cast aren't left behind. Looking forward to Fantastic Four."
Peterloo (2018) - Rated 22 Mar 2025
"There is plenty to like, but it either needed a central protagonist to follow (the soldier maybe?) and fewer characters. Or a full mini-series to give everyone time."
