The Returned (2012) - Rated 23 Apr 2025
"A mystery box about those returning to life that ultimately never truly gets answered. It's deep, well-acted, well-written and shares a lot of atmospheric comparisons with Dark, but the finale just gives up."
The King: Monarch of Eternity (2020) - Rated 08 Apr 2025
"Put simply: a romantic sci-fi parallel universe drama. The King of the "Kingdom of Korea" uses a magical bamboo stick to transport himself to the Republic of Korea, our Korea and quickly falls in love with a police officer there. There's somewhat more to it than that, but most characters have alternative versions and the difference between them all is very well done for the most part - with certain characters ("Unbreakable Sword") genuinely coming across as entirely different people."
A besúgó (2022) - Rated 11 Feb 2025
"A great capture of late-stage Iron Curtain Hungary. The main character, Demetor is forced into spying on an underground democracy movement in the university he's going to. He meets up with the charismatic asshole known as Zsolt, who just by sheer force and commitment spearheads the entire thing. He's easily the most indepth character in the show. With a surprising second going to Demetor's goofy playboy-styled roommate."
Romulus (2020) - Rated 23 Nov 2024
"So this is essentially a Roman version of Vikings. It's early Roman period, all in Latin (which enhances its authenticity for me) and is tribal. You could call the lead protagonist(s) (Yemos and Wiros) as overall 'good guys' and Amulius a 'bad guy', but they all have their reasons for what they do. Superstition and ritualism function as major plot drivers just as it does in Vikings."
Teacup (2024) - Rated 15 Nov 2024
"A fairly passable possession-horror, 'among us' type rural horror show. Nothing substantial to say about it. It's mostly cheap for what it is which may mean it can get renewed, or not depending on how poorly it did."
The Artful Dodger (2023) - Rated 05 Oct 2024
"This is essentially just a dramatic comedic spin on The Artful Dodger as a surgeon set in mid 19th century Australia who gets wrapped up with a snobby rich girl in a cross-class romance, against the wishes of her family. This is one of those 'could be a limited series, could get a season 2' types. It wraps up, but leaves things open. It's mostly not to be taken seriously. The loss of Gaines for a potential season 2 is a loss given how well he performed as the towns sheriff."
Helgoland 513 (2024) - Rated 01 Aug 2024
"A "just okay" post-apocalyptic community drama where the island of Helgoland is one of the last outposts of survivors that uses a social credit system to determine who survives and who thrives."
The 8 Show (2024) - Rated 29 Jul 2024
"This is billed as a comedy-drama, but there's little comedy in it overall. Maybe some of the surrealistic imagination/dream sequences you see from characters. But it's a -mostly- well done death-game (esque) psychological thriller. It's an effectively rigged game about making as much money as possible that plays upon people's class and social insecurities."
Fremvandrerne (2019) - Rated 26 Jul 2024
"The series is mostly just okay. It tries to thread too many plot paths and can't really hold them all. Most of the Season 1 plotlines with the luddites are completely abandoned. Interesting characters drift in and out. The premise of this show is really interesting, and it's quite well done in style and theme - but it needs about 4-5 seasons and 10 episodes a pop to explore the social ramifications of such a world."
Heartstopper (2022) - Rated 10 Jul 2024
