Late Autumn
I was right, Yasujirō Ozu really does make great films later in his career! This one was actually legitimately fun, funny, and charming! Setsuko Hara was a lot better but still had some issues, but it was her daughter (played by Yōko Tsukasa) that stole the whole movie! In fact, I would bet that if Yasujirō Ozu found Yōko Tsukasa earlier that she would have had an even more amazing career. Other then that, this film was really fun to watch and went by too fast. My only criticisms are that on The Criterion Channel, this is in 480P and that I wish we had more focus on the suitors in the movie. I really feel if this was in a better definition it would be my favorite Yasujirō Ozu film!

Mini Review: Ozu’s later films really are great! This one was legitimately fun, charming. Setsuko Hara was much better though still uneven, but it was her daughter (played by Yōko Tsukasa) who completely stole the movie. Honestly, if Ozu had discovered her earlier, her career could’ve been even greater. Film went by too fast and was a joy to watch. My only complaints are that on Criterion it’s stuck in 480p and that I wish there was more focus on the suitors. In higher def, it might be my favorite Ozu film.
