An Affair to Remember
The combined good will of Grant and Kerr pulls this lavish and soapy melodrama over some rocky terrain, with a first half that works very well as the two leads wearily circle one another (the moment of passion captured from the neck down is almost unbearably cute), and the whole sequence with a scene-stealing Nesbitt is worth the price of admission alone. It is unfortunate that the pacing in the second half slows to a crawl, and is awkwardly structured to contrive phony suspense, eventually leading to a final scene which is undeniably well-written and performed, but perhaps too cerebral given what leads up to it.
