If it doesn't quite come together, and Toback's Altman-ish hopscotching through his character's lives proves that no-one does this like the master, there's still a great deal to enjoy here, mostly thanks to Toback's great eye for casting, bringing together the oddest combinations and grouping of actors and letting their combined, surprisingly potent energy carry the film during some truly awkward careens. Feels too much like a stunt to have any hope of saying anything truly profound, but does offer its cast some great, in some cases (Tyson & Downey) unforgettable moments, combined with some uncomfortable laughs here and there. An odd duck, but not an uninteresting one.
