Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun), a lawyer who is good at his job but takes on only non-monetary criminal cases, is headhunted by a major law firm because of his track record. Fukayama begins working in a newly established team specializing in criminal cases, but Sada (Teruyuki Kagawa) and Ayano (Nana Eikura), the head of the office, are unwilling to work with him. Meanwhile, the team receives a request to defend a man arrested for murder.
Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun) and his team take charge of the defense of Yamashita (Kazama Shunsuke), who is charged with murder. Yamashita stated that he was assaulted by a man he met at a tavern and impulsively stabbed him to death. Yamashita said he stabbed him twice, but the coroner's report showed that he stabbed him five times. As Fukayama investigates, he finds out that the victim was a sergeant and that an incident he had committed two years earlier had been covered up.
Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun) and his team receive a request to defend Kaho (Yamashita Rio), who was arrested on suspicion of stealing 10 million yen from her employer's safe and pleads not guilty. Fukayama and Ayano (Nana Eikura) are asked by their client, Kaho's mother Saeko (Yumi Aso), to somehow help her daughter even if it means spending all their money. They also learn that Saeko has terminal pancreatic cancer and only has one month to live.
Kikuchi (Itao Itsuji), a leading researcher on natural energy, is arrested for indecent assault. He allegedly touched Ihara (Fumie Hamakawa), a former colleague with whom he had been drinking, but Kikuchi has no memory of the incident. When Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun), who is in charge of Kikuchi, and others verify the story, they find discrepancies in Ihara's statements. The possibility of acquittal increases, but Kikuchi suddenly demands a settlement.
Otomo (Eiji Okuda), the Chief Public Prosecutor, puts pressure on Marukawa (Takataka Aoki), whose decisions to not prosecute continue. Meanwhile, Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun) and his team take charge of a beating that occurred after an argument. The assailant's father committed suicide 18 years ago, and Fukayama and his team investigate the connection to the case.
Sada (Teruyuki Kagawa), who was in charge of the murder of a wealthy family's daughter that took place 18 years ago, is confronted by Fukayama (Jun Matsumoto) about whether there were any flaws in his interrogation. After repeatedly reviewing news footage from that time, Fukayama senses the possibility that testimonies were twisted, illegal investigations and fabrications took place. He thoroughly investigates the case, demanding to find out who the real culprit is and to start a retrial.
The president of a video game company is murdered in his home, and the managing director, Nishioka (Kyusaku Shimada), is arrested. Hideki (Masanobu Takashima), the president's son, asks the Ikarime Law Office to defend Nishioka. Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun) and his team interview Nishioka, who denies the charges, and inspect the crime scene. In order to prove his innocence, they needed to overturn evidence that Nishioka's fingerprints were left on the murder weapon, a vase.
Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun) is brought in after a warrant is issued for his arrest for murder. Fukayama is defended by Sada (Teruyuki Kagawa) and others from the Ikarume Law Office. According to the police investigation, when Fukayama had dinner with a client, the man suddenly collapsed in front of him and died soon after. Sada and the others examine the footage, which shows that Fukayama laced the man's meal with poison.
Sada (Teruyuki Kagawa), Fukayama (Jun Matsumoto), and Ayano (Nana Eikura) go to the home of the chairman of Yamashiro Electric Railway. They find the chairman murdered inside the house. Satsuki (Ryoko Kuninaka), the wife of the third son, confesses that she strangled him with a vermilion tie because she was tired of caring for him.
A defendant in a serial murder case pleads not guilty at a meeting with Fukayama (Matsumoto Jun). The defendant says that Marukawa (Aoki Takataka) led him to sign the statement, but there are hair and bloodstains of the defendant at the scene. Sada (Kagawa Teruyuki) searches for the security camera footage, saying that it is difficult to overturn the case unless his alibi can be proven.
