Tired, manipulative drama is cut from the cloth of many a 90s TV movie dealing with 'social issues'; there is the kernel of an interesting story here, especially viewed 25 years later in the era of #MeToo, but the film goes too far gilding the lily, using overstated music and melodrama to underscore Bedelia's already harrowing plight. Even Torn, Neal and Grier are left adrift with undernourished and colourless characters.
