Sparkling and witty mini-series is possibly a little slight to sustain 3 hours, but the bizarre, incredible story is so well handled by Frears (with distinct echoes of DANGEROUS LIAISONS), that it remains a fun and engrossing experience; Grant runs with the role of a lifetime, artfully balancing the evil comedy and sad pathos of his fascinating character, and Whishaw and Jennings are no less impressive. Understated critique of social mores and standards in 60s-70s Britain very well handled.

Enjoyable miniseries with just the right amount of runtime. Nothing particularly stands out other than decent casting and a fairly interesting portrayal of real life events, but it’s certainly worth a watch.
