A biopic of Golda Meir and a brief history of Israel up to 1978 from her viewpoint, the film is woefully superficial. It does well to emphasize Golda's ardent Zionism and honest belief in peace. However, in the words that Nigel Hawthorne spits in his small role as King of Jordan, Golda was a stubborn and arrogant woman, and her portrayal is too flattering to fully acknowledge the adverse political implications of this. While only Dayan resembles himself, the sets and wardrobe are very authentic.
