Season 1 - On her first day at Nishi High School, 15-year-old Hiromi Oka is inspired by top player Reika "Ochoufujin" Ryuuzaki to take up tennis. Shortly after joining the school's tennis club, she encounters Jin Munakata, the club's new coach. Munakata puts everyone under rigorous training that even puts Ochoufujin to shame. Hiromi Oka's been chosen to play on the top-class Nishi High tennis team! The older girls glare coldly, even the kind and beautiful Madam Butterfly won't talk to her. Hiromi wants to quit the team, but Coach Munakata won't let her. Drawn into a terrifyingly dark vortex of hatred, Will Hiromi manage to stay afloat?
Regional preliminaries begin, and Hiromi is filled with dread. There to cheer her up is the kind Takayuki Todo. And Madam Butterfly gives her favorite racket to Hiromi. Go now, Hiromi! Keep your eye on the ball! On the brilliant, white court, Hiromi's spirit trembles fiercely.
In the middle of her match, Hiromi gets a leg cramp and falls to the ground. Kyoko Otowa, full of contempt for Hiromi, demands the coach let her play a practice match. The winner will be the one to play in the next tournament. Hiromi is fired up, ready to do her best!
Hiromi is devastated by the loss of her racket. But Coach Munakata couldn't care less, as his brutal training continues. Good luck, Hiromi! You can do this! Hiromi's tears and sweat glisten on the court as she chases the ball relentlessly.
At last, the semifinals have begun. Hiromi's heart is rattling like an alarm bell. Kita High takes the first set, 6-2. Calm down, Oka! Just stay calm! Munakata's scolding makes Hiromi move. Hiromi rises to the occasion, playing evermore skillfully.
The whistle of the finals rings out. The Orchid's powerful serve flies like a bullet. Pelted down by those shots, Hiromi falls to the ground. "I'm scared of the court! Of tennis!" Hiromi cries out. Now, get up, Hiromi! It's every person for themselves on the court!
Otowa is very upset by Coach Munakata's handling of Ryuzaki's injury. The very next day, a special meeting is held, where Munakata and Hiromi find themselves targets of unbridled rage. All the while, Munakata remains completely silent. Hiromi's heart will be rocked like a boat in stormy waters.
Before her individual match, Hiromi's pairing changes. Her opponent is none other than her idol: Madam Butterfly, a.k.a. Reika Ryuzaki. Hiromi sprints around the court at top speed. Munakata's training has her fired up. Then, one day, Hiromi is summoned by Madam Butterfly and presented with a serious issue. Hiromi is shocked. Hiromi comes to a standstill in the pouring rain, her heart badly shaken.
With Hiromi having returned to the tennis club, Kyoko Otowa resumes her bullying. Regardless, Coach Munakata's strict training continues. Now there are only three days until the prefectural team championship match. Hiromi dives for the ball, heart thumping like mad.
Hiromi's win makes the front page of the school newspaper, and she takes a firm hold on the resulting inspiration. However, Madam Butterfly's attitude only grows colder. Finally, the solo finals match arrives. The Butterfly can't afford to lose her title as queen. Meanwhile, The Orchid seeks to de-throne her at all costs.
At the celebration party for Nishi High's group win, Kyoko Otowa hands in her club resignation. Munakata is shocked, but her decision is firm. Meanwhile, Hiromi is surrounded by the boys' club members, relishing the feeling of her win. Hiromi's entranced heart shines bright like the sun.
She can't get along with Madam Butterfly, and their pairing isn't working out. Increasingly worried, Hiromi's playing only worsens.
