Rebecca was sometimes annoying, her husband was even more annoying, and I was expecting a ridiculous schmaltzy predictable Harlequin romance of a movie, but it was actually quite clever with lots of surprising plot twists, humour and complex, well written characters played by impeccable actors. Never got too pollyanna, “noble savage”, nor was it racist in any way, which seems like an impossible tightrope given the handling done by *most* films of this genre. Kind of shocked, actually.
