The last episode, when we all of sudden jump forward a year, felt too "journalistic" to me. I thought the film was at its best when it focused on personalities and setting.

Pensive, low-key observation of a mayoral race in Chicago provides a superficial but thoughtful overview of the different social dynamics at work, amongst the candidates themselves and the populace; overlong by at least 1 episode, but still interesting. The final episode, a perceptive and clear-eyed detailing of the collide of COVID and BLM protests is a mini-masterpiece of doco film-making and elevates this otherwise middling series to a must-see.
