Excellent serialisation for Gibney's intriguing Halifax is really just a superior CSI style crime procedural, elevated by the first-rate production values and solid anchor work by Gibney and LaPaglia. Admittedly loses its way when dealing with Halifax's domestic dramas (which amount to an overly plotty red-herring) and the ultimate resolution is less satisfying than the earlier episodes which present a vivid portrait of a city under siege. It's ultimately popcorn TV, but still gripping.
