How the fuck is this anyone’s favorite iteration of the book? Morton was in her late teens when this was filmed, Hinds 24 years her senior. She put out a fantastic performance but there is an overwhelming lack of romantic chemistry between the two. Hinds is cartoonishly over emotional and bellows MOST of his lines. The camera work is lifeless and direction insipid. No wonder the director never worked with anything significant after JE.

One of the better and more clearly made British 18th century costume drama productions. The narration helps enormously.

I don't understand the appeal of this version, Rochester is a selfish and completely abusive jerk, all likable parts removed. (?Spoiler?) Jane should have run away sooner and then never went back.

This version is the BEST!!
