Intriguing but pointlessly obscure drama does become more involving as it proceeds, and is fired by a typically fine performance from Dench, but it's hard to get past the fact that the screenplay is just an arty soap opera -- that Pinter is the writer means that the language is very eloquent, but it doesn't really add up to anything but a group of repressed characters whining about their hang-ups.
