very interesting version of a Christian movie about being a pioneer. (definitely the best in its series)

Cornball but sweet natured saga which ticks along more or less as you would expect, with an edge to the performances that helps cut through the sentimentality; Bartusiak is terrific as the young daughter, and Heigl is also very affective. Told with a directness and efficiency which means it never outstays its welcome.
