The least successful of TVE's zarzuela films. A shame, because this is one of the greatest zarzuelas of all. It is substantially condensed, a process which left out many small but important plot points, causing a lot of emotional transitions to make no sense--helped not at all by weak direction. The lighter scenes--like the one in the park--fare the best. And the lip-synching is particularly bad in this one. Also a shame: the great actor Fernando Guillén gets to show none of his strengths.
