The classic Perry Mason (1957-1966) remains the best adaptation of the source material, and in many ways pulls off the narrative better than the books. Although the trope of the accused losing on the stand, there are enough surprises that the whodunit nature of the episodes keeps the format fresh. The granddaddy of the TV courtroom drama, and still really one of the best.
