The experimental directing - dream sequences, playing with black and white and color, the homages to film history, the use of music to connect two scenes happening at once - was one of the major highlights of the show. However, Queer as Folk lived and died with its characters and it lived well. Drastically different characters like Brian (Gale Harold), Michael (Hal Sparks), and Emmett (Peter Paige) push each other to grow, to adapt, but most importantly to come to understand just who they are.

Season 1 is amazing, the rest ranges from good to mediocre. Not to mention the underwhelming "ending".

I rewatch this at least once a year. It is my favorite show ever. So funny, so sweet, so tragic, so much drama!

I could barely get through episode one, let alone the few I watched afterwards. This show is a hot mess of bad politics and awful characters. Like Looking was 5000% times better, but I guess one should respect this show's importance in being a huge step forward in queer representation on television.
