Season 1 - Taking place in the past it offers a view at the Saiyuuki quartet before their formation and their journey to the west. First OVA starts with Sanzo and his master, also with Ukoku (known as a later Ni Jianyi). Second OVA shows first meeting of Goku and Sanzo. Third OVA considers the events after Hakkai's sins and his trial (that we know from first season of "Saiyuuki") and his decision to live in Gojyo's house.

Twenty years ago, Koumyou Sanzo visited Zenkoji Temple where Godai Sanzo resides. Godai Sanzo realizes that he is suffering from a serious illness and does not have much time left to live. In the presence of Koumyou, he elected a candidate for the official successor of Mutenkyomon, Kenmura, who raises an objection to the selection, suppresses Godai to the floor.
Son Goku's Chapter (2007)

Tenpou and Kenren invited Konzen and Goku to have a picnic under the cherry blossoms. While they were having a picnic, Kenren challenge Goku to climb the tree. The conversation later on goes about the cherry blossoms. Kenren mentioned that Cherry Blossoms in lower world are different from those of Heaven. Different in the way they bloom they fall. This made Konzen curious and wanted to see how they bloom in the lower world.
Third OVA considers the events after Hakkai's sins and his trial (that we know from first season of "Saiyuuki") and his decision to live in Gojyo's house.
