A leisurely paced and thorough portrait of both Steve and Martin contrasts the two halves of an eclectic career – the first half a portrait planned and controlled to an almost stifling degree, the second half (my preference) an air of almost radical randomness, of a drift characterized by “how did I get here?” which is more or less reflected in Martin’s sometimes head-scratching movie choices (though his “family entertainer” phase is almost completely skipped over). Interesting and illuminating.
