Opie has a crush on a new girl and asks his Dad for advice on how he should tell her he likes her. Andy says that often the other party will know just by the way you act around her so he shouldn't do too much out of the ordinary. Opie decides to buy her a gift but when Andy discovers he has bought her nylon stockings, he suggests that's just a bit too personal and should return then. Barney has to gain weight and somehow grow taller in a week's time in order to meet new guidelines for sheriff's deputies or lose his job. Can he do it?

Aunt Bee decides that they have not spent enough time keeping in touch with their family and gets Andy to agree to inviting her sister Nora and her husband Ollie to visit for a weekend. They soon arrive with their two boys and while Bee enjoys seeing her sister again, the arrangements aren't very convenient with the three boys sharing a bed as are Andy and Ollie.

An old beau of Aunt Bee's returns to court her, but he has an annoying sense of humor.

Barney decides that to be a modern police force, the Mayberry Sheriff's office should have a tracker dog. The mutt he acquires for the task is a lovable thing but not exactly suited for the purpose.

When Barney gives Fred Plummer a ticket for littering, Fred threatens to beat up Barney if he catches him out of uniform. Barney begins to wear the uniform all the time, and Andy gets suspicious. Once Andy finds out the truth, Barney tries to reassure Andy that he can handle himself against Fred Plummer by telling Andy he has been going to Judo class again.

Opie finds a purse containing $50.

Andy considers taking a job in Raleigh, and lets Barney take over as sheriff for a day to prepare him for the office.

When Clara has to suddenly go out of town Aunt Bee gets the leading role in Mayberry's Centennial Pageant, but her acting skills aren't quite up to the task.

Andy and Helen go on a picnic but are plagued by constant interruptions from Barney, Goober and others.

Helen is incensed when rumors spread around town that she and Andy are engaged. She's sure Andy had something to do with it but its all news to him as well. It seems that Goober and Barney went to an auction where the Deputy bought an old game made up of an oil lamp and Tarot-like cards. As a result of a series of coincidences, Barney comes to believe that it can make your wishes come true. He gives Opie three wishes.

After Otis falls down in the sheriff's office, a sleazy lawyer convinces him he would be helping Andy and Barney if he were to sue the county.

Barney decides to try his hand at the real estate business. He has a plan that will net him commissions on three sales. Crucial to the deal is Andy selling his house and buying another.

While Barney is on vacation in Raleigh, Andy needs to find someone to fill in as a temporary deputy. When Andy himself has to go to a sheriff safety conference for a few days, nobody is available, so he is stuck with Goober. Goober doesn't take the job seriously (still working at the filling station). It gets so bad that Goober begins to work on cars at the sheriff's office and even ends up completely dismantling a car right inside the courthouse.

Barney tries to rehabilitate Otis after he rides a cow, thinking it is a horse. Barney arrests Otis when it happens again, even using handcuffs. Otis leaves town and vows to never return.

Barney gets a chain letter that predicts bad luck it he doesn't make copies and send them to friends. To prove to Andy that he's not superstitious, he doesn't send any. A constant stream of back luck is the result. Things look bad when he has a marksmanship test coming up, which he has to pass in order to keep his job.

When Andy and Barney get tired of Goober tagging along on their dates, they decide to try teaching him how to act around women and then get him to ask a girl on a date. It proves to be quite a project.

Barney decides to run for sheriff when he thinks Andy is leaving Mayberry. When Andy ends up staying, Barney ends up running against him.

Barney finds $250,000 from a bank heist, then goes undercover to find the robber.

After Andy is profiled in a national sheriff's magazine as the 'Sheriff Without a Gun,' a television production team comes to town to research a possible TV show about Mayberry's sheriff department. Barney makes the most of it, bragging about his mostly imaginary exploits, while Andy is his normal self-effacing self.

Helen gets jealous when a very attractive friend of the family visits the Taylor household for a few days.

Opie and Howie start to produce their own school newspaper, the Mayberry Sun, but sales are pretty slow. Barney tells the boy that he knows exactly what's wrong: he needs to broaden the scope of his stories beyond his classroom and publish news articles that people want to read. He and his friend Howie decide they are going to publish all the gossip that's fit to print. Soon, they are eavesdropping on private conversation printing verbatim what they say and with full attribution.

A traveling salesman is plagued with bad luck.
