I read the novel while I was in high school and hugely enjoyed it (which they then filmed in my home state), and was very curious to see how they would handle the, um, climactic scene...at least almost everything becomes clear by the end. I can't think of a better choice to portray Widow Fortune than Bette Davis--yet another good TV movie role for her. A stylish, if rather lengthy, adaptation. Fun, if you're in the mood for pagan rituals and a touch of the macabre.
