A well done TV-level adaptation somewhat elevated by its trio of veterans; Hoskins, Fox and Falk are all terrific and their interplay together is the highlight of overlong but satisfying adventure tale. There's nothing that dates a movie more than CGI, but given its station and likely budget, the effects work is pretty good, and the location filming gives it an extra visceral charge, especially during the terrifying cliff crossing at the midpoint!

The CGI is dreadful, and yah there's nothing worse than bad CGI to drag down a movie. But in spirit, if not in letter, this is quite faithful to Conan Doyle's novel, it has a terrific cast (Bob Hoskins is WONDERFUL as Challenger, in quite a different way than Wallace Beery was equally wonderful in the same part); an adventure with social conscience. The greatest thing since sliced bread? Nah. But rather engaging and undeserving of the harsh words heaped upon it.

Good version of the classic tale.

Good interpretation of the Doyle book with decent production values. Considering this is an A&E movie, the CGI and special effects makeup are pretty stellar. Highly recommended for a rainy day viewing.
