Uneven, ultimately endearing series never quite gets all its ducks in a row – more successful in its quietly dramatic moments exploring the fractious familial dynamic between Barber, Buchanan and Mooy; their issues may not be original, but the actors imbue their characters with a specificity that helps blow away the cliches. Comically speaking, it brings nothing new to the “cringe comedy” genre, with Barber’s overstated shenanigans rarely authentic or genuine, which dulls the edge of the comedy.
