He vows to win enough money in shooting contests to win her father's approval, but when he returns, he finds she has married another man who is jealous. The husband tries to have a murder warrant served on him; shoots him and hires a gambler to murder the man. While not their finest performances, Sam Elliott and Ben Johnson are still cool. Wild Times was entertaining, but had problems. The romance was horrid, and the girl's facial expressions cringe-worthy. The accomplishments of our hero were so over the top that it could have been a comedy. From world champion rifle shot to Wild-Bill-esque dime novel hero, he contemptuously out-guns the worst rendition of Doc Holliday ever and later starts a Buffalo-Bill-esque wild west show.
