Post war japan creating its own youth culture and attempting to put it on film but also dealing with the pains/death of being the only country to suffer at the hands of nuclear war and how that plays a part in the dynamics between the old and new cultures. The invasion of western thought and being (a concept Ozu[sorry had to bring him up] and co had obviously mastered). Good stuff
