Tess of the Storm Country

Supposedly Mary Pickford's favorite role, and one of her most representative. I wouldn't know, since this is the first Mary Pickford film I've seen. And make no mistake --this is a Mary Pickford film. The star system was established through her and Chaplin and every scene in the film, from her introduction on, revolves around her luminescence. Pickford is often described as feisty and plucky. I think her diminutive stature makes her look like a hobbit next the other players.

I liked the story and for the most part I found it entertaining enough. It was a little too slow though, and Mary Pickford's character needed to be more captivating for it to work; she does ok, but is not charming enough to leave an impression.
