Piñiero's debut might also be his most easily digestible film, relatively speaking of course. The usual reference points when discussing his work are as relevant as ever, but if they feel less fully integrated here the individual Rohmer and Rivette-esque bits are as pleasurable as they ever have been (also, it takes almost half an hour for anyone to start quoting Shakespeare).
