Re: Describe your favourite movie-going experience of your l

There have been a few: I was about 19 when Apocalypse Now Redux came out. I went to see it one late summer afternoon, it played in the tiny back room of the local cinema and I think there were only 1 or 2 other people in there with me. I found the 3-hour movie captivating, and walked out buzzing whe...

Thanks, but now I've gone and spoiled it. Been on a bit of a purple streak of movie-watching this past month.

Re: Barbara (Christian Petzold)

I liked this film too, and I'd be impressed if Petzold has made another as good. I saw Yella and it was just ok. I should have a chance to see Wolfsburg soon and maybe eventually Jerichow although I'm not sure if either is that much hyped.

2500 ratings, woop woop!

Woohoo, I'm officially halfway to being a Pauline Kael! Show me some love peeps! ;)

Even got mini-reviews on 894 of them now, I guess I should press on and reach 1000.

Or alternatively maybe I ought to get a life rather than watching those forthcoming 2500 movies... nah

Not sure about all the elements you mentioned but could it be Serial (1980)? Sounds like a good laugh anyway.

Re: "The Artist"

IMO being silent didn't take anything away from The Artist. Having an unoriginal plot took something away, but in terms of audiovisual aesthetics it was pretty much perfect.

Re: mise en scène: pretentious or what?

I've seen it in two or three reviews this week and you're right, it's vague. I didn't know what the writers were referring to. For me mise-en-scène can mean composition but also encompasses the set, decor, lighting... everything that contributes to the "scene" in the camera before actors a...
