Recommendations based on a collection

Post by rleitzell »

Would it be difficult to add a feature that would recommend related films for a whole collection, not just an individual film? For those of us doing research and such, it would be an incredible feature...

Thanks for such a great site!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not positive I understand exactly what you mean. Are you talking about searching for multiple films to add to a collection?

Or are you talking about getting recommendations limited to the films within a collection?

I think that instead what of the OP suggests, since the OP wants to find similar movies, it might be better to have a feature that allows users to comment "If you like this movie, then you will also like...)" in a similar way to how urban dictionairy is used. Users could also upvote for example themes like 'individualism' or 'alcohol'. Either that, or it could be calculated from the dataset.

To clarify: if your PSI for Coolhand Luke was 50 but you gave it a 80, then it might be of interest to you that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest (a similar movie that you would likely also have a PSI of 50 for) is in fact very similar to Coolhand Luke and that the PSI for One Flew should actually be 80 instead of 50.

rleitzell, the best way right now to get what you want is to make a collection yourself and then gather support on the forums to add movies to it.

Wait, is there a way to get recommended movies based on one particular movie instead of your whole database?
