A woman leaves her fiancé and disappears a few days before their wedding.
A teenaged girl's membership in the Communist Party in her Italian town causes tension in her family, especially as she roots for the USSR in its race to space versus the United States. Alienated by a passive mother and aggressive step-father, rejected by the boys in her local party except as an object of lust, she is left to confide in a brother who dreams of space but whose epilepsy means his fantasies will remain merely fantasies.
