Nandini (Revathi), is an illegitimate child who comes to Ooty, in search of her father who is a retired chief justice of supreme court. Mohan Kumar (Suresh Gopi) is a young political firebrand whose power and influence is on the rise. In mysterious circumstances, his wife Reshmi (Sindhu Menon), a prominent social personality, commits suicide. Since the couple was not known to have had any marital discord, the police are entrusted with the task of unraveling the circumstances of her death. The step-brother of Mohan Kumar, Detective Shyama Prasad (Suresh Gopi), is put in charge of the case.
When Balakrishnan (Saikumar) finds that the job for which he came to the city for, has gone to Rani (Rekha), he decides to fight & stays on in the city as a paying guest with Mannar Mathai (Innocent), a failed drama troupe owner. Gopalakrishnan (Mukesh) is his other paying guest, who dislikes Balakrishnan. When they get a wrong number call from Ramji Rao (Vijayaraghavan), who has kidnapped the daughter of Urumees Thampan (Devan), a rich businessman, Gopalakrishnan hatches a daring plan.
Vijay Menon, a captain in the Indian army, on his way home on vacation, finds a badly bruised and beaten up journalist, Kumaran (Thilakan), by the side of the road and takes him to the hospital. When Kumaran dies the next day, and the police didn't seem to care to follow up on his death and catch the culprits, Vijay Menon decides to take matters into his own hands and investigate Kumaran's death, aided by his friend and sidekick Kutti Hassan (Jagathi Sreekumar).
Raju (Jagadish), who comes to the city in search of a job, woos Shyama (Sunitha) with the help of his old friend Williams (Siddique), & in the process Williams also fall in love with Shyama's friend Mercy (Suchitra). Later, Raju & Williams, who start a video store business, cover a political function, where they accidentally tape someone explode a bomb which kills the Chief Minister. This lands them in trouble, & they go on the run, with both the bad guys & the cops after them, wanting the tape.
Solomon Joseph (Prithviraj), a corrupt & arrogant SI of Rajakkadu, Idukki, locks horns with ex-MLA Ummachan (Devan) over his younger brother Dennis's arrest & later Dennis dies in police custody by Solomon's hands. Solomon gets transferred to Badhiyadukka, Kasargod. In Badhiyadukka, Solomon alienates a local bigwig Arrackal Aboobecker Haji (Captain Raju) & he is attacked & left to die by his Haji's son Sharief. Solomon takes this incident to be a punishment for his past sins & becomes repentant.
Sam Alexander (Mohanlal), a motor mechanic who runs 'Sam's Garage', meets & falls in love with Sreedevi Menon (Kanchan), daughter & heir of the affluent Meleveettil family, whom he also wished to cast in his drama production as the character 'Shakunthala'. Sreedevi's family opposes this, & aided by their family friends, IG of Police Ravindran Nair (Vijayakumar) & his son Rajkumar, who have their own plans of getting hold of the wealth of the Meleveettil family, tries to destroy the relationship.
Dr. Annie (Heera) completes her studies in the US & returns to join her uncle David Kurishinkal's (Soman) 'Span Hospital', to practice under famed surgeon Dr. Roy Mathews (Mohanlal). Annie initially thinks Roy is a boor & hates him, but soon she sees his humanitarian side & they fall in love & get married. When Roy was out of town, Annie stumbles upon an internal organ racket in the hospital. She is killed & the blame falls on Roy. Roy escapes from jail to find Annie's killer - a one-armed man.

Not knowing this, Chandrasenan's younger brother Vishnu (Suresh Gopi), another toughie, had already promised to protect Anjana. Both brothers, adamant to keep their word, turns against each other.
Two friends - Sethumadhavan aka Sethu (Jayaram) & Roy (Mukesh) - after trying out various odd jobs, decide to steal, which lands them in jail. CI Wahid Abdul Rahman Haji (Kalabhavan Mani) takes up the case & arrests sanyasi Parashuram Bhattathiri (Suresh Gopi), who was staying in the same hotel as Yamuna Prasad, in the process. An irked Bhattathiri challenges Wahid that he will solve the case before him.

Best friends Eby (Kunchako Boban) & Sona (Shalini) were born on the same day, grew up together, are neighbors & goes to the same college. Hari (Vineeth) travels to Varanasi after his M.Phil. to do research in North Indian folk arts, where circumstances force him to shelter a girl Amritha (Kavya Madhavan) from evil gangster Kishanchand (Suresh Krishna). Devadas (Devadas), a young boy, drinks a potion brewed by scientist R.C. Vasu then gets out on bail & tries to prove his innocence.
Gangster Bava (Thilakan) seeks revenge against Mahendra Varma (Narendra Prasad) of the royal Krishnapuram palace for the atrocities Varma had done to Bava in his younger days. Bava's aim was to cause mental anguish to Varma & to later kill Hariprasad & blame that on Varma too, but Hariprasad catches onto Bava's game & tries to outwit him.
Gokul Das aka 'G' (Dileep), a reformed thug, takes up a job as a driver at the house of rich businessman Vishwanathan (Devan), where he tries to save Vishwanathan's daughter Sreepriya (Roma) from a group of contract killers. Escaping a kidnapping attempt from the group, G & Sreepriya gets lost in the jungle, causing back home, everyone, including ASP Ramachandran (Siddique), Vishwanathan's friend, suspects G & Sreepriya of having eloped together.
Bus owner & conductor Zakir Hussain (Mammootty) gets into a mess when his nephew Najeeb's (Jayasurya) pregnant girlfriend Sugandhi (Bhavana) shows up, after she leaves her own home for good to be with Najeeb. With Najeeb away in Dubai for work & Zakir's own sister Celina's (Mamtha Mohandas) wedding around the corner, Zakir tries to hide Sugandhi till Najeeb got back, with disastrous results.
Krishnamurthy (Mohanlal), a Brahmin youth, lands a job with the Calcutta Construction company to evacuate the impoverished, but troublesome residents of the infamous 'Vietnam Colony'. Krishnamurthy devises a scheme to evacuate them, but later when he learns that he was duped by the company, he takes the side of the colony residents.
When businessman Chandrasekhara Menon (Devan) decides to wind down his businesses in Singapore & move back to Kochi to look after his hotel there, his hotel manager Sreedharan Unnithan (Kalasala Babu) & sons fabricate a plot to jail Menon in Singapore, with the aim of getting the hotel for themselves. After Balu (Jayaram) & Soorya (Sheela) fall in love & get married, but are unable to start a life because of Balu being broke, Soorya decides to try her luck as an actress in a new film, while Balu pretends to be her makeup man, to be close to her. To get Soorya back, Balu returns as a makeup man again for a co-actress of Soorya's, but Soorya's director Siddarth (Siddique) has taken a fancy to her, complicating things.

They finally get to Haridas, but when he reveals on his deathbed that one of his 3 children was actually Antony's daughter, Antony is forced to turn against his friends to protect the girls.
Madhavan (Saikumar), the influential bigwig & father figure of the village of Chandragiri is killed by foes from his past who descends on the village. Madhavan's son, college student Arjun (Prithviraj), is forced to take up his father's mantle after Madhavan's death & seeks revenge for his father's death.

Orphaned Bijli works on a farm owned by widowed, wealthy and arrogant Avinash Rai.
